A traditional Italian favorite, this lasagna features layers of savory meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella, perfect for any family dinner.
Ingredients
12 lasagna noodles
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1/2 cup red wine (optional)
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
1 tablespoon oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
15 ounces ricotta cheese
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente, drain, and set aside.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent.
Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes to let flavors meld.
In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
To assemble the lasagna, spread a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place a layer of noodles over the sauce, then spread a layer of the ricotta mixture, and sprinkle with mozzarella. Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of noodles topped with sauce and mozzarella.
Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes until the top is bubbly and browned.
Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
